A Prayer a Day: Hello, Lord. Today is May 8, an important day in history. On this day, May 8, 1945, 75 years ago, WW11 ended. Today is the anniversary of VE Day; Victory in Europe. Lord, we know Jesus came into the world, not just to liberate one region of the world, but to liberate the whole world from the powers of sin and death. We thank you, Holy God, for sending your only begotten Son, Jesus, into the world. For 2000+ years, people from all over your world have found liberty in Christ. As you know, Lord, the Bible is full of passages on liberty and freedom. John 8:36 reads, “So if the Son sets you free you will be free indeed.” Freedom has two aspects. In a relationship with Jesus we are FREE FROM sin, guilt, shame, and addiction, and we are FREE TO love, forgive, help, heal, and offer hope. Lord, we see that you sent Jesus to save us from evil and to make us free to be Christ-like; good, righteous, and pure. Thank you, Holy God, on VE Day for freedom. We cherish the liberty you give us in Christ. Help us, Lord, to always be mindful of the great sacrifice made on Calvary, to secure our freedom. Help us to offer Christ and his freedom and liberty to all people. Come Holy Spirit and set us free: amen.
